Inconel® Machining Services

Through understanding the material properties of Inconel and its various grades, Marver Med offers precision Inconel machining utilizing a process-focused approach. As a high-strength material resistant to harsh environmental conditions, Inconel can be difficult to machine. We have the experience to program CNC machines to produce high-precision, high-quality Inconel components for a wide range of demanding applications. Marver Med is a go-to manufacturer of CNC-machined parts, providing a variety of precision machining capabilities to meet your needs.

What is Inconel?

Inconel is a nickel-chromium-based alloy designed to withstand extreme temperatures, mechanical stress, and corrosive environments. It is a strong, non-magnetic, and heat-resistant material that is typically used in demanding industries, such as medical, aerospace, and defense, to produce high-performance components.

Why is Inconel Difficult to Machine?

Because Inconel is engineered to retain strength and resist heat, it is difficult to machine, exhibiting extreme toughness and other metallurgical properties that create harsh conditions for cutting tools. Inconel is susceptible to work hardening and heat buildup, which can cause rapid tool wear. This material also requires significant force to cut, making it difficult to achieve tight tolerances. It is important to work with an experienced machinist who understands the material properties of Inconel and can deliver components to your exact specifications, despite the challenges it presents.

Inconel CNC Machining Capabilities

Marver Med offers high-precision, cost-effective Inconel CNC machining across a range of methodologies. Our capabilities are backed by material expertise, allowing us to achieve results that meet your requirements and exceed your expectations. Inconel machining services include, but are not limited to:

Marver Med Machines Common Inconel Grades

  • Inconel 625: A nickel-chromium-molybdenum grade with niobium, offering excellent corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance, and high strength without heat treatment required.
  • Inconel 625 LCF: A low-cycle-fatigue variant of 625, demonstrating tighter control of carbon, silicon, and nitrogen, with similar properties to 625.
  • Inconel 690: A nickel-chromium-iron grade with very high chromium content, offering resistance to high-temperature oxidation and good resistance to nitridation and sulfidation.
  • Inconel 706: A nickel-iron-chromium grade that can be precipitation-hardened, with high strength and good fabricability, easier to machine than 718.
  • Inconel 718: Precipitation-hardened nickel-chromium grade with very high strength, good corrosion resistance, and reliable performance at elevated temperatures.
  • Inconel X-750: A nickel-chromium grade that can be precipitation-hardened, offering exceptional strength, resistance to oxidation and corrosion, and high-temperature creep-rupture resistance. It can maintain mechanical properties into cryogenic temperatures.
  • Inconel X-751: A modified version of the X-750 grade, consisting of nickel, chromium, iron, titanium, and aluminum for high-temperature strength, corrosion resistance, and heat treatment compatibility.

Inconel Machining for Medical Components

Inconel offers exceptional biocompatibility, corrosion resistance, and durability for demanding medical devices and components. This material yields a variety of high-performance parts that are suitable for long-term implantation, resisting wear and maintaining its structural integrity for:

  • Precision medical components
  • Surgical instruments
  • Implants
  • Medical device parts

Aerospace and Defense Parts with Inconel Machining

As a popular choice for producing mission-critical parts in aerospace and defense applications, Inconel resists oxidation and corrosion, as well as high-pressure conditions and pressure changes.
