Cobalt Chrome Machining

As its name suggests, cobalt-chrome is comprised of chrome, cobalt and other metals like molybdenum, nickel, etc. Having outstanding strength, wear and corrosion resistance, and perhaps most notably, its high level of biocompatibility, cobalt-chrome is often used for making dental and orthopedic implants. Cobalt-chrome is also used for producing wind turbines, jet engine parts and other mechanical parts where resistance to wear is a must. Cobalt-chrome is not easily bent, broken or scratched. The surface can be polished and buffed into a smooth, mirror-like finish.

Because of its high degree of hardness, cobalt-chrome is difficult to machine. Marver Med’s expertise with machining cobalt-chrome is the result of many years of experience. You can trust that Marver Med knows which types of tools, cutting speeds, feed rates and other cobalt-chrome machining techniques best suited to achieve excellent results and surface finishes.
